Born with congenital glaucoma, I became fully blind at the age of twenty five. Over the space of a year I went from some sight to nothing at all due to retinal detachment. I had the support of my mum, dad, brothers, friends, and communities to get me through the tough times. Oh… and let’s not forget the treadmill.
Fast forward several years later, I am now married to Nick, we have our son Max, and my black Labrador guide dog Dara completes our little whanau.
My eyesight may have decided to stop working, but my determination certainly didn’t.
Since 2013, I’ve completed sixteen marathons, two Half Ironman events, represented New Zealand in paracycling, and participated in multiple charity endurance rides. One of my proudest achievements was becoming the first blind woman to cycle the length of New Zealand, raising funds to help other blind athletes pursue their own dreams through the Chasing Dreams Fund.
Proceeds from public speaking and my books go towards the Chasing Dreams fund. This fund supports future blind athletes to chase and achieve their dreams. If you would like to donate, please get in touch.
Thank you all for your support. I could not have achieved the things I have without the support of so many. Thank you for chasing dreams with me.
